That’s great Raymond, thanks.
And apologies once again for my long "disappearance",…
Do you mind if I reply directly in english for now if we’re just us talking?
I have recently subscribed to the french "Forumpimpf" as well, and I’m trying to use french with the translator, but it’s pretty time-consuming.
When we reach a satisfying conclusion, we can post the results in french, anyway.
First, you are right but not quite… The adventures form a "unicum", true, in the sense that they are presented chronologically, the first being Romano going to the Spanish civil war. But they are separate adventures, each with his own title.
The main different, from what I can grasp, is that in France Romano was "reinvented" almost each time. From your early statement I misunderstood and believed that actually "Romano il legionario" had a french publication prior to the one on "L'As" (which I recently discovered by chance!) but he did not.
Having acquired some numbers of "L'As" I can confirm:
1)
Romano il legionario: Adapted on L'As nn.115-144 as
"L'aigle du ciel": Romano becomes a french patriotic hero "Martial", fighting argentinian enemies. Many panels are adapted, uniforms et al, up to the striking final where he flies on Paris instead of Rome.
2)
Il deserto bianco: Adapted (only partially) as
"Le désert blanc" on L’As nn.158-169. I seem to get Romano is adapted, changing identity once more and becoming a generic french hero. Since "L'As" was canceled with number 169, the story remained incomplete.
The others should be as you say, I doubt there are other Caesar material of the same period, except for "Le conquerants de l'avenir" on L'Aventureux (from 1936), which was published in France only.
